Step Up to Juniors!
The junior squad is open to players up to age 18, with no fixed lower age limit - what matters is each child’s ability and readiness in the water. Whether they’re an Aquaball graduate, a teenager trying water polo for the first time, or a swimmer looking for a new challenge, two free trial sessions are waiting. Parents and carers are welcome to stay and watch from the balcony.

What to Expect
Junior sessions take the playful introduction of Aquaball and build on it. Players learn proper water polo technique - movement through the water, ball handling, set plays and match craft - through structured drills and small-sided games. Sessions are demanding but always fun, and the focus is on developing well-rounded young players who love the game.
A Pathway to the Seniors
Many of our adult players started right here in the junior section. We work hard to make the move from juniors to senior squads feel natural: stronger junior players are regularly invited to train alongside the mens and womens seniors as part of their development, so by the time they reach senior age, they’re ready to step straight in.
Expert Coaching, Real Competition
Our junior coaches include former and current Team GB players and Team GB level coaches with years of experience working with young people. We field junior teams in regional and league fixtures through the season, so players get regular competitive match experience alongside their training.
Game Time
Sessions often finish with a training match - small-sided games where players put their drills, set plays and ball skills into action against their teammates. It’s competitive, supportive, and a lot of fun, and it’s where the technical work clicks into proper game craft.
Awards and Progress
Our junior sessions follow the Swim England Learn to Swim awards framework for water polo levels 8, 9 and 10. Players progress through the levels as their skills develop, and we hand out physical awards to celebrate every milestone they reach.
Everyone welcome - with a friendly check. Junior sessions are a step up from Aquaball and a step down from senior training - a great middle ground for developing players. To take part safely we just need players to be confident and comfortable in deep water. Coaches will do a short, friendly check at the first session. There’s no judgement involved - if your child isn’t quite ready, we’ll happily point you toward local swimming sessions and welcome them back when they are.
Ready to Join?
Junior sessions are open to young players up to the age of 18 and run weekly at Hucknall Leisure Centre. There’s no fixed lower age limit - it depends on the child’s ability. Every new player gets two free trial sessions before deciding to join. Get in touch and we’ll let you know which session to come along to first.
