About the Squad
Our mens senior squad trains regularly at Hucknall Leisure Centre and competes in British Water Polo League Division 2 and the Notts League. We welcome new players of all experience levels - whether you’ve played at school or university, competed elsewhere, or are returning to the sport after a break.
The squad balances serious competition with a strong team culture. Training sessions focus on fitness, ball skills, set plays and game tactics, and we field teams in regular league and cup matches throughout the season. Our squad includes both former and current Team GB players, so newcomers of all levels train alongside players with international experience.
University & Club Connections
We have strong links with the water polo clubs at Nottingham University, Loughborough University and Nottingham Trent University. Players moving to or from these clubs are always welcome at Hucknall, and many students train and compete with us alongside their university squads.
How to Get Involved
The best way to find out if our squad is for you is to come along to a session. New players are welcome to two free trial sessions before deciding to join. Get in touch and we’ll let you know which session to come to first.
Everyone Welcome - With a Safety Check
Water polo is a fast-paced game played in deep water, so anyone joining the senior squad must be a competent swimmer. Being a strong swimmer doesn’t automatically mean you’re ready for water polo, so coaches will do a short assessment to make sure you’re safe to play. There’s no judgement involved - if you’re not quite ready, we’ll happily sign-post you to local swimming clubs and welcome you back when you are.
