A strong all-round performance saw the Hucknall mens squad come away from Grantham with a comfortable 17-9 win in the Notts League on Thursday night.

The visitors set the tone from the off, going 4-2 up after the first period with goals from captain Taylor, Ballaam, Swainson and Brodie-Kalay. A 3-1 second made it 7-3 at the break, with Endy, West and Swainson on target - and the defence keeping the home side to a single goal across the period.

The third period was the standout. Hucknall outscored the hosts 6-4 to put the game beyond reach, with Eccles rattling in a hat-trick in the period alone. Further goals from Ballaam, Brodie-Kalay and a late Stapleton strike with seconds on the clock made it 13-7 going into the last period.

A controlled 4-2 fourth period closed things out. Endy opened the scoring, Taylor added his second of the night, Ballaam grabbed his third and West rounded off the win at 17-9.

Eight different Hucknall scorers shared the goals - Eccles and Ballaam with three each, Swainson, Brodie-Kalay, West, Endy and Taylor with two apiece, and Stapleton with one. Just as pleasing was the work at the other end - a disciplined defensive shift kept Grantham to single figures and gave the attack the platform to run away with it. A real team effort, and a fine reward for the work the lads have been putting in.

For Grantham, Berry was their leading scorer with a goal in every period.

Reflecting on the win, mens coach Tom Wall said:

Once again the mix of youth and experience paid dividends with captain Adrian Taylor not only adding to his season goal tally with 2 well taken efforts but his overall supportive attitude, that helped the young team across the line.
